Three long weekends coming up: Deepavali, Christmas and New Year in Singapore

Singapore has three long weekends coming up between now and early January: Deepavali in November, Christmas in December and New Year in 2027. Here are the dates, what else is going on around them, and what to check in PantauSivik before you head out.
Short answer: the long weekends are Saturday 7 to Monday 9 November, Friday 25 to Sunday 27 December, and Friday 1 to Sunday 3 January. School holidays start on 21 November, and fares rise 7.0% on 26 December.
The dates
- Deepavali: Saturday 7 to Monday 9 November 2026. Deepavali itself is on Sunday 8 November, so Monday 9 November is the observed public holiday.
- Christmas: Friday 25 to Sunday 27 December 2026. Christmas Day is a Friday.
- New Year: Friday 1 to Sunday 3 January 2027. New Year's Day is a Friday.
You can check the full list of holidays on the Ministry of Manpower website.
What else is on the calendar
School holidays. Term 4 ends on Friday 20 November, and the year end holidays run from Saturday 21 November to Thursday 31 December, according to MOE. Junior college and Millennia Institute students finish a week later: Term 4 ends on Friday 27 November, and their holidays run from Saturday 28 November to Thursday 31 December. Expect busier trains, buses and attractions from 21 November.
Fare change. Public transport fares rise 7.0% on 26 December. That is the Saturday of the Christmas weekend, so trips on the second day of that weekend will already cost more. We cover the changes in our fare review post.
Little India. The Deepavali light up started on 3 October and runs daily from 7pm to midnight along Serangoon Road. The Festival Village on Campbell Lane runs from 10 October to 8 November, from 7pm, and closes on Deepavali. Details are on Little Big Red Dot. We did not find published road closure details, so check closer to the day.

Road works on the books
We counted the works in PantauSivik's road works data that are scheduled to be active on at least one day of each long weekend, as at 17 October. That includes long running works, some of which run for years.

The numbers fall the further out you look, because works finish and new ones are still being added. Do not read that as fewer disruptions at New Year. Check again a few days before each weekend, and look at your own route.
Bus and rail notices
We have not found published rail or bus changes for the three long weekends yet. The notices currently in PantauSivik all take effect before the first one: temporary night closures for Jurong Region Line works run to 30 October, new services 873, 873M and 874 start on 25 October, and services 80, 86, 87, 372 and 374 move back to Sengkang Integrated Transport Hub on 31 October. Our night closures post covers the closures.
A five minute plan

- Open the Trip Planner to check your route and fare, especially from 26 December.
- Check road works and expressway travel times in Traffic.
- See live lots in Carparks before you drive in.
- Turn on Public Alerts for train faults, closures and weather.
Heading across the Causeway or the Second Link? The Malaysia section shows transit, weather and fuel prices. If haze is still around, read which air quality number to check.
