Getting from Changi Airport to the city: what to check before you go

Changi Airport connects to the city by train, bus, taxi and ride-hail, and each one can let you down in its own way: a train fault, a long bus wait, a taxi queue or a downpour at the pick-up point. This post sets out the routes the airport itself lists and what to check in PantauSivik before you pick one. We leave train and bus fares out because they change. Public transport fares rise 7.0% from 26 December 2026, which our fare review explains.
In short: Changi Airport has an MRT station, bus bays, taxi stands and ride-hail pick-up points. The train and bus stop for the night, while taxis run around the clock. Before you leave, check MRT crowds and alerts for the train, live arrivals for the bus, and the Trip Planner estimate for a taxi.

Before you leave the terminal
- Know your terminal. Terminals 1, 2 and 3 use basement bus bays, while Terminal 4 has its own bus stops.
- Get online. PantauSivik needs an internet connection, so use airport Wi-Fi or a local data plan. If you have not set the app up yet, follow your first 24 hours in Singapore.
- Glance at the sky. A storm changes which route is comfortable. See rain in Singapore for visitors.
Option 1: MRT
Changi Airport station is CG2. For the city, the airport's page suggests riding to Tanah Merah (EW4) and changing to the East West Line towards Tuas Link (EW33). The other option is to ride to Expo (CG1/DT35) and change to the Downtown Line towards Bukit Panjang (BP6/DT1).
The airport lists the first train to Tanah Merah at 5:31 AM from Monday to Saturday and 5:59 AM on Sundays and public holidays. It also lists last trains at 11:18 PM and 12:06 AM for connections. Treat these as a guide and confirm them on the day.
Check in PantauSivik:
- MRT and LRT platform crowds, so you know how busy the platform is before you go.
- Public Alerts for train faults on the lines you plan to use.
- The Trip Planner, which puts the walking and MRT legs together.
Option 2: Bus
Terminals 1, 2 and 3 use basement bus bays for services 24, 27, 34, 36, 53, 110 and 858. Terminal 4 has a stop next to Car Park 4B for 24, 34, 36 and 110, and another near SATS Inflight Catering Centre 1 for 27, 53 and 858. Which one suits you depends on where you are staying, so look up your destination first.
Check in PantauSivik: open the bus arrivals guide to see live arrival times, crowd colours and the first and last bus for the stop, and save the stop if you will use it again. The Trip Planner can show a bus route alongside the MRT so you can compare them.
Option 3: Taxi
Taxi stands are at the arrivals level in Terminals 1 to 4. The airport says the trip to the city takes about 30 minutes and costs about S$25 to S$45 on the meter. It lists an airport surcharge of S$8 from 5 PM to 11:59 PM and S$6 at other times, a 50% midnight surcharge from 12 AM to 5:59 AM, and a 25% peak surcharge in set hours. Taxis run 24 hours.
Check in PantauSivik: the Trip Planner gives a quick taxi estimate to compare with the train. For the road, look at expressway travel times and traffic cameras, and read night road closures and bus diversions if you land late.
Option 4: Ride-hail
The airport lists Grab, Gojek, Zig, Tada, Ryde and Geolah, with pick-up at the Arrival and Ride-Hailing points at Terminals 1 to 4. PantauSivik does not book rides. Use it to check the weather and Public Alerts before you request a car, and to see the route in the Trip Planner. For groups, the airport also lists a Ground Transport Concierge at S$70 for a 4 seater and S$75 for a 6 seater, for one drop-off in Singapore.
If you land late at night
The airport says most bus and MRT services do not run overnight. If your flight lands close to midnight, look at the last train and bus times above before you leave the gate, and be ready to take a taxi or ride-hail instead. Remember the midnight surcharge on taxis from 12 AM.
How to pay
The airport lists contactless bank cards, mobile wallets, EZ-Link or NETS FlashPay cards and the Singapore Tourist Pass. Admin fees can apply to foreign cards, and buses take cash if you have the exact fare. Check your card's fees with your bank before you go.

- Open Alerts and look for train faults or road disruptions.
- Open the Trip Planner, enter your hotel and compare the options.
- Check MRT crowds or bus arrivals for the route you choose.
- Look at Weather for rain or lightning before you walk to the stop.
